NIJ Body Armour Classification System
Evaluates the performance and effectiveness of ballistic protective equipment. Developed by U.S. National Institute of Justice (NIJ) and recognized Internationally.
Protection Levels
- Least effective: Level I
- Most effective: Level IV+
- Symbols:
- (A) - lower than standard level the "A"
- (+) - higher than standard level

Protection Zones
When inspecting a vest or body armour, you can see which areas are protected, indicated at the top left of the vest. Common protection zones include:
- Front
- Back
- Sides
